IN 1872, THE ADNAMS FAMILY PURCHASED AN EXISTING BREWERY IN SOUTHWOLD WHICH HAS BEEN OPERATED BY THE FAMILY EVER SINCE. THERE ARE RECORDS OF BREWING ON THIS SAME SITE AS FAR BACK AS 1345!
Established in 2010, the Copper House distillery has been uniquely designed to create a “Grain to Glass” spirit using locally-grown malted barley, wheat and oats.
The “distillery wash” which forms the base for their spirits, actually starts life as their 7% abv, unhoped beer, produced using Adnam’s own 70-year-old yeast strain. This is then distilled in small batches in our specially designed copper stills and rectifying columns to produce hand-crafted spirits with exceptional quality.

RATING:98 Points. Gold Medal. Outstanding, IWSC
“Incredibly expressive and fresh, this has a big and pronounced set of aromas, including new oak and spicy notes, plus orchard fruit and stone fruits. Apricot jam and baked apples, too, with a touch of cinnamon dusting and custard. A well-balanced and beautiful palate with spicy notes leads on to a herbal, long finish. A fantastically fresh and expressive whisky.” Named as one of the Top 20 Whiskies of 2019, Whisky Advocate HOW IS IT MADE Made using rye grown by Jonathan Adnams at his farm in Reydon, just a few miles away from our brewery and distillery in Southwold and 25% barley. Rye creates a whisky with great depth and character with a dry and spicy finish. Our Rye Whisky has spent at least five years in brand new French oak barrels before bottling. Serve neat with a splash of water or as an ‘Old Fashioned’ cocktail made with angostura bitters and a brown sugar lump. WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE? Lovely aromas of warm vanilla, raisin fudge and black peppercorns with a smooth, rich and spicy palate. AWARDS: RYE CATEGORY WINNER: Best British Rye!
