RATING:90 Points, Whisky Advocate
“The nose is lavish, with dried orange peel, raisins, plum, gingersnaps, aniseed, and menthol. It’s a thick, malty, statement whisky, rich with raisin, prune juice, heather honey, fig, and walnut, and laced with aniseed and clove. Pleasantly reminiscent of childhood cough medicine, there are long, sweet, syrupy prune notes at the end. It feels like it must be doing you some good.” Teerenpeli’s KASKI is matured only in carefully selected sherry casks. The name KASKI is derived from traditional Finnish farming vocabulary, meaning swidden or burnclearing. This is the first phase of cultivation–a new beginning—representing the fact that KASKI is the first release of Teerenpeli’s Distiller’s Choice Series. Try enjoying a glass of KASKI Single Malt Whisky after dinner. The spirit is then aged for at least 1 year in a combination of heavily toasted new and refill 150 and 225 liter barrels with interchanging oak and acacia staves, It is then aged for in refill Bordeaux wine barriques (mainly American oak) and finished in freshly emptied German pinot noir barriques. TASTING NOTES Color: Roasted brown sugar Nose: Fruitiness with a hint of peat Flavor: Smooth, rich, and malty with a delicate touch of peat Finish: Spicy yet smooth aftertaste with notes of raisiny fruitcake Teerenpeli Kaski was awarded a Double Gold Medal at the 2018 New York World Wine & Spirits Competition RATING: 96 Points, Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible “This impressive whisky lets the port lead the dance, but never treads on the toes of its partner. The nose reveals prominent cask influences of pomegranate, inky plum flesh, blackberry, and gummy cherries, with a supporting cast of honeycomb, dried herbs, and bay leaf. It jinks and dodges between dried peel, fudge, baked orange, vanilla, and fine spice notes before developing into a sweet ripe cherry and red apple finale.” Teerenpeli’s PORTTI Single Malt Whisky is matured in small 140 liter ex-bourbon casks for 3-4 years and the is finished in Port-wine casks for an additional 18 months before being bottled at 43% ABV. Color: Reddish-golden brown Nose: Strong fruitiness, roasted sugar flavors, well balanced with a malty sweetness. Flavor: Smooth with a hint of black pepper and port wine notes. Finish: Long and pleasant. |

Teerenpeli SAVU Finnish Single Malt Whisky is an incredibly well-made whisky, which was distilled and aged in Finland using locally grown barley. The whisky is distilled from 87% pilsner malt, and 13% heavily peated malt, and the resulting new make spirit is peated to 5ppm. The pilsner malt is grown in Finland within 95 miles of the distillery, while the water used to make the spirit is filtered through the Salpausselkä esker, a gravel ridge formed by the ice age about 10,000 years ago. The spirit is double distilled in copper pot stills, which were produced in Scotland for Teerenpeli’s own design specifications. Following distillation, SAVU is aged in medium toasted first fill ex-Bourbon and Pedro Ximinez Sherry casks, which are sourced directly from the Cor- doba region in Spain. The casks are placed in 40 foot shipping containers and are placed outside, where the extreme tem- perature shifts of the Finnish climate help craft an extremely complex whisky. In Finland, the temperature in the winter drops to -30° F, while it gets as high as 85° F in the Summer. No artifical heating or cooling is used during the ageing process. |
