In the Grallet-Dupic family, there have been five generations of cereal producers, and distillation has been part of the business for more than 150 years. Their distillery, G. Rozelieures, is located in a picturesque village of Lorraine, at the foot of an ancient volcano.
More than a family affair, it is a passion for whisky that drives them. By growing the barley themselves in their naturally-rich land, the family masters the quality of their raw materials. They distill their whisky right at their farm, a few hundred yards away from the fields.
Rozelieures’ whisky is the result of years of research, and it is really distinctive due to a thorough care of each step of the production process: they own and operate the barley fields, the malting facility, the distillery and of course the cellars. All the G. Rozelieures whiskies are single malt, and the distillery is the first in all of France to work with peated malts, with peat sourced from a few miles from the distillery. Loyal to tradition, G. Rozelieures carries out a double-distillation for all the whiskies. This process grants a greater finesse and a unique aromatic intensity.
After distillation, whisky is aged in oak casks from the local forests, as well as casks that have contained wine and spirits from Kentucky, Xérès, Burgundy, the Rhône Valley and southwest of France. The aging process can take place in different types of cellar, to adjust the process and create unique and distinctive single malts.
