The Glengarry Bonnet has been worn with pride by Scots for hundreds of years - since the days when tartan and kilts were banned, and much of our whisky was produced in illicit stills hidden from the excise men. It was named after Alexander Ranaldson MacDonnell of Glengarry, one of the last great Highland clan chieftains, who adopted the traditional headgear in 1794 for his regiment of local men, the Glengarry Fencibles. A friend of Sir Walter Scott and an inspiration for Robert Burns, MacDonnell of Glengarry was bold, adventurous and yet refined - the quintessential Scotsman. Today, the spirit of Glengarry lives on through the bonnet that bears his name.
