Four Year Jamaican Rum. Release 1: 4-year-old small batch Jamaican rum. Our first release is now available at bars, restaurants and retailers in Louisville, Northern Kentucky and soon to other national markets. Enjoy straight, or use in classic cocktails like the Daiquiri or Rum Old Fashioned. Tasting notes Release date: April 2019 | Barrel date: 2014 | Distilled in Jamaica | 100 proof, 50% ABV Color: medium golden brown. We don’t add food coloring or caramel coloring to our rum. Like Scotch, rum generally gets aged in used cooperage (i.e., a barrel that held something else previously, generally bourbon). Hence, pure rum should generally be lighter in color than bourbon (which is aged in a new barrel). If you see a younger rum that is darker that this rum, it is a safe bet that it has coloring or something else in it. Nose: banana, vanilla, caramelized sugar, citrus, baking spices. If you’re having problems picking up different aromas, we recommend the Glencairn tasting glass, which was designed to concentrate aromas specifically for this purpose. Flavor: banana, oak, dark fruit, caramelized sugar, candy, with a light oak finish and baking spice finish. What really drew us to this particular rum is the fruit and floral forward flavor profile—not something that you will encounter in many of the mass-produced rums which aim for uninspiring.
Eleven Year El Salvador Rum. The Kentucky Cask Series features small batch rums partially aged in Kentucky and blended by RFS founders Turner Wathen and Jordan Morris. The founders blend each limited release for a flavor profile lending itself to extended aging in hand selected casks in Kentucky bourbon warehouses. Batch No. 2020B1 | For the inaugural release of the Kentucky Cask Series, we blended a small batch of rum distilled in El Salvador. To reinforce the subtle sweetness of this aged rum, the founders selected several American Oak Kentucky bourbon barrels and rye whiskey barrels to add sweet notes of vanilla, caramel, floral and citrus. To balance these sweet flavors, some of the rum was aged in French Oak port casks and sherry casks. The casks add strong baking spice, hazelnut, and dark fruit notes. After two Kentucky summers in a bourbon warehouse, the founders blended the casks to achieve a well-balanced rum. It highlights the hand-selected barrels, and unique aging characteristics only available in Kentucky. This release is bottled at cask strength. 110 proof, 55% ABV |
